Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month 2025: A Message from the Arab Cultural Center – St. Louis
Dear St. Louis Community Members,
As we welcome the month of April, we are filled with immense pride and joy as we celebrate Arab American Heritage Month. This is a time to honor the contributions of Arab Americans, reflect on their profound impact, and recognize their continued influence on the cultural, economic, and social fabric of our nation.
Arab Americans, including many influential figures from our own St. Louis community, have played an essential role in shaping the nation’s identity. From the accomplishments of individuals like Lyda Krewson, the former Mayor of St. Louis, whose maternal family roots trace back to Lebanon, to Dr. Ghada Jamil, a community leader advocating for Arab American rights and cultural awareness – these inspiring voices represent the rich and vibrant tapestry of Arab American heritage in our city.
Additionally, we are proud to honor the contributions of Francis Slay, former Mayor of St. Louis, whose leadership left a lasting impact on the city’s growth and its Arab American community. While not of Arab descent, his advocacy for diversity and inclusion continues to inspire us.
We also celebrate the groundbreaking work of Dr. Michael DeBakey, a pioneering heart surgeon of Lebanese descent, whose medical advancements have saved countless lives, and Rami Malek, an award-winning actor of Egyptian descent who brought Arab American talent to the global stage with his Oscar-winning performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. Furthermore, Tony Fadell, an innovator of Lebanese descent, revolutionized the tech industry with his role in developing the iPod and other key technologies.
The Arab American community in St. Louis continues to contribute in diverse fields such as business, academia, the arts, public service, and beyond. We are proud to be part of a city that celebrates its Arab American residents, and it’s essential to reflect on these achievements while acknowledging the importance of unity, diversity, and inclusion.
At the Arab Cultural Center – St. Louis, we are committed to fostering cultural exchange, encouraging dialogue, and celebrating the diversity that enriches our Arab American community. Our programs, events, and outreach initiatives are designed to create a welcoming environment where every individual is valued and respected.
Throughout this month-long celebration, we invite you to join us in honoring the legacy and contributions of Arab Americans. Through cultural performances, art exhibits, educational workshops, and culinary experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Together, let’s celebrate the unity and diversity that make our community stronger.
Let’s reflect on the many ways Arab Americans continue to shape our nation’s future and legacy, from the innovative work being done in St. Louis to the national stage.

الاحتفال بشهر التراث العربي الأمريكي 2025: رسالة من المركز الثقافي العربي – سانت لويس
أعزائي أعضاء مجتمع سانت لويس،
مع قدوم شهر أبريل، يعترينا شعور بالفخر والسعادة ونحن نحتفل بشهر التراث العربي الأمريكي. هذه فرصة لنا لتكريم مساهمات الأمريكيين العرب، والتفكير في تأثيرهم الكبير، والاعتراف بتأثيرهم المستمر في النسيج الثقافي والاقتصادي والاجتماعي لأمتنا.
لقد لعب الأمريكيون العرب، بمن فيهم العديد من الشخصيات المؤثرة في مجتمعنا في سانت لويس، دوراً أساسياً في تشكيل هوية الأمة. من إنجازات أفراد مثل ليدا كريوسون، عمدة مدينة سانت لويس السابقة، التي تعود جذور عائلتها الأم إلى لبنان، إلى الدكتورة غادة جميل، القائدة المجتمعية التي تدافع عن حقوق الأمريكيين العرب وتعزز الوعي الثقافي – هذه الأصوات الملهمة تمثل التراث الغني والنابض بالحياة للمجتمع العربي الأمريكي في مدينتنا.
نحتفل أيضًا بالمساهمات البارزة لـ فرانسيس سلاي، عمدة مدينة سانت لويس السابق، الذي ترك بصمة كبيرة على نمو المدينة ومجتمعها العربي الأمريكي. وعلى الرغم من أنه ليس من أصول عربية، إلا أن دعمه للتنوع والشمول لا يزال يُلهم الجميع.
كما نكرّم العمل الرائد لـ د. مايكل دبغي، الجراح المتخصص في القلب من أصل لبناني، الذي قدم العديد من الابتكارات الطبية التي أنقذت العديد من الأرواح، ورامي مالك، الممثل الحائز على جائزة الأوسكار من أصل مصري، الذي أضاف لمسة فنية للأمريكيين العرب على المستوى العالمي من خلال دوره المميز في فيلم Bohemian Rhapsody. بالإضافة إلى ذلك، نحتفل بـ طوني فاضل، المبدع اللبناني الذي أحدث ثورة في صناعة التكنولوجيا من خلال مساهمته في تطوير جهاز iPod وغيره من الابتكارات التكنولوجية.
يستمر المجتمع العربي الأمريكي في سانت لويس في المساهمة في مجالات متنوعة مثل الأعمال التجارية، والأكاديمية، والفنون، والخدمة العامة، وغيرها. نحن فخورون بأننا جزء من مدينة تحتفل بسكانها العرب الأمريكيين، ومن المهم أن نتأمل في هذه الإنجازات مع الاعتراف بأهمية الوحدة، والتنوع، والشمول.
في المركز الثقافي العربي – سانت لويس، نحن ملتزمون بتعزيز التبادل الثقافي، وتحفيز الحوار، والاحتفال بالتنوع الذي يعزز مجتمعنا العربي الأمريكي. تم تصميم برامجنا وفعالياتنا ومبادراتنا المجتمعية لخلق بيئة ترحيبية يشعر فيها كل فرد بالتقدير والاحترام.
خلال هذا الاحتفال الذي يستمر طوال الشهر، ندعوكم للانضمام إلينا في تكريم إرث ومساهمات الأمريكيين العرب. من خلال العروض الثقافية، والمعارض الفنية، وورش العمل التعليمية، وتجارب الطهي – هناك ما يناسب الجميع للاستمتاع به. دعونا نحتفل معاً بالوحدة والتنوع اللذين يجعلان مجتمعنا أقوى.
دعونا نتأمل في العديد من الطرق التي يواصل من خلالها الأمريكيون العرب تشكيل مستقبل أمتنا وإرثها، من الأعمال المبتكرة التي تُنجز في سانت لويس إلى المسرح الوطني.
