Statement of condemnation and call to Vermont authorities for action
Arab Cultural Center is expressing deepest concern and outrage over the recent hate crime against three Palestinian students Vermont. This kind of violence and discrimination has no place in our community, and we must all work together to ensure that everyone feels safe and welcome here.
The students, each of them 20 years of age, are Mr. Hisham Awartani of Brown University; Mr. Kinnan Abdalhamid of Harvard University; and Mr. Tahseen Ahmed of Trinity University. The students gathered to enjoy Thanksgiving break. According to the information provided the three victims were wearing a Kuffiyeh and speaking Arabic. A man shouted and harassed the victims, then proceeded to open fire, injuring all three of them.
Arab Cultural Center urge the police to take swift and decisive action to investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. We must send a clear message that hate, and bigotry will not be tolerated in Vermont or in any other community.

بيان إدانة ودعوة إلى سلطات ولاية فيرمونت لاتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة
يعرب المركز الثقافي العربي عن قلقه العميق وغضبه إزاء جريمة الكراهية الأخيرة التي تعرض لها ثلاثة طلاب فلسطينيين في ولاية فيرمونت. هذا النوع من العنف والتمييز ليس له مكان في مجتمعنا، وعلينا جميعًا أن نعمل معًا لضمان شعور الجميع بالأمان والترحيب هنا.
والطلاب، وعمر كل منهم 20 عاماً، هم السيد هشام عورتاني من جامعة براون؛ والسيد كنان عبد الحميد من جامعة هارفارد؛ والسيد تحسين أحمد من جامعة ترينيتي. اجتمع الطلاب للاستمتاع بعطلة عيد الشكر. وبحسب المعلومات المقدمة فإن الضحايا الثلاثة كانوا يرتدون الكوفية ويتحدثون العربية. وقام رجل بالصراخ على الضحايا ومضايقتهم، ثم شرع في إطلاق النار، مما أدى إلى إصابة ثلاثتهم.
المركز الثقافي العربي يطالب الشرطة باتخاذ إجراءات سريعة وحاسمة للتحقيق في هذا الحادث ومحاسبة المسؤولين عن أفعالهم. يجب أن نرسل رسالة واضحة مفادها أنه لن يتم التسامح مع الكراهية والتعصب في فيرمونت أو في أي مجتمع آخر.
